Sunny Bozymski is a registered dietitian with a background in clinical nutrition who helps her patients set realistic goals that will be sustainable over the long term as they improve their overall health.
Most recently an Outpatient Clinical Nutritionist at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Bozymski has worked with patients of all ages and has special expertise in medical nutrition therapy, eating disorder recovery, chronic disease management, and nutrition education.
“Wellness culture can be very confusing with information that’s not necessarily accurate,” Bozymski says. “My job is to help people navigate that and understand what behaviors might be in the way of them reaching their goals.”
Bozymski’s passion for nutrition was born out of her love of dance. As a modern dancer growing up, she developed a deep interest in learning to fuel her body in a healthy manner. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Bucknell University, Bozymski moved to New York to pursue professional dance. When an injury changed her path, she moved into the world of fitness.
After four years at SoulCycle, Bozymski returned to school and earned her Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. While working on her degree, she also completed the NYU Dietetic Internship Program, which gave her experience in food service, community, and clinical nutrition placements.
During the internship program, Bozymski worked closely with chefs to design medically appropriate meals at God’s Love We Deliver, a nonprofit in New York City that provides food to people with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other serious illnesses. She then worked with Culina Health, a virtual nutrition service, to create meal plans for a diverse client population. Finally, Bozymski finished her clinical internship at Balance Eating Disorder Treatment Center, where she worked with both adult and pediatric patients on eating disorder recovery.
At the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), Bozymski developed tailored nutrition plans for patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lupus, osteoporosis, and other chronic conditions. In addition to her work at HSS, Bozymski started her own private telehealth nutrition practice, where she counsels clients on disease management, body positivity, eating disorder recovery, lifestyle optimization, and weight management.
“My approach is all about sustainability,” she says. “I want a nutrition plan to be as realistic as possible for the person following it. This means we find small, doable steps to work on and add gradually. The simpler the plan, the more successful we are at achieving it.”
At Atria, Bozymski enjoys collaborating with doctors and other specialists. “Here, you’re able to talk to everyone in real-time and come up with solutions for each member,” Bozymski says. “The interdisciplinary approach is amazing.”
In her own time, Bozymski enjoys cooking and spending time outside in West Palm Beach with her husband and their dachshund.
