A leader in naturopathic and integrative medicine, Robert Kachko, ND, LAc, credits an early health scare with inspiring his passion for non-conventional approaches to medicine. By the time he was in high school, Kachko already had a strong interest in medicine. He was training to be an emergency medicine technician when he self-discovered an arrhythmia, which his doctor at the time chalked up to stress and too much caffeine.
Unconvinced, his mother brought him to see an integrative medicine physician, and after two months of treatment, Kachko’s symptoms abated altogether. It was a formative experience that he carries with him to this day. He hasn’t had an arrhythmia since.
"Growing up I was always fascinated by medicine and the human body,” says Kachko, a naturopathic physician and licensed acupuncturist. “What resonated most for me were fully integrated models of care that see the whole picture of a person’s health."
After earning his bachelor’s degree in business and pre-medical studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Kachko began pursuing his career in naturopathic medicine. He earned a doctoral degree with honors in naturopathic medicine from the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine and a master’s degree in acupuncture from the Acupuncture Institute, also at Bridgeport. He is the author of several textbook chapters in the areas of mental health conditions, digestive disorders, and neurological conditions.
In 2020, Kachko founded the New York Center for Integrative Health and the Connecticut Center for Integrative Medicine, where he is beloved by his loyal patients.
Kachko takes a detective-like approach to underlying medical conditions, incorporating traditional diagnostics, functional medicine labs, and genomic assessments, which inform an integrative medicine treatment.
With a particular interest in mental health, chronic pain, and digestive disorders, Kachko now incorporates many different modalities in his practice.
“I was giving patients the best evidence-based protocols and some people were simply not getting better,” he says of his early days as a naturopathic physician. “So I took the time to understand how their medical history aligned with the personal story that lies under that—and that prompted me to explore clinical tools to address their trauma in a way that led to resolution of their physical symptoms.” Compassion, Kachko says, is always at the core of his approach.
As a passionate advocate for health care reform, Kachko has served as President of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) and on the Board of Directors of the New York Association of Naturopathic Physicians. He lives in Westchester with his wife and son, where they enjoy spending as much time as possible in nature.
